``The day I accepted the head coaching position at the University of Pittsburgh, I said that our goal was to firmly place Pitt among the very best programs in the country,'' Wannstedt said. ``That goal has not changed and I believe now more than ever that we are doing all the necessary things to reach that level.''
Prior to taking over at his alma mater in 2004, the 55- year-old Wannstedt was the coach of the National Football League's Miami Dolphins and Chicago Bears and was an assistant with the Dallas Cowboys.
